The Tiny Glossary

Confused by the jargon? We translate "Telematics Speak" into plain English.

Glossary Terms

Geofencing

Features

A virtual fence you draw on a map. When your vehicle enters or leaves this area (e.g., a depot or a job site), the system sends you an alert.

Ghost Data

Tech

When a tracker reports a location incorrectly due to poor signal (e.g., in a tunnel). Our devices filter this out so your reports stay accurate.

Hardwired vs. Plug-in

Hardware

Hardwired trackers are wired behind the dashboard (requires a mechanic). Plug-in trackers go into the OBD-II port (takes 10 seconds). We use Plug-in.

Idling

Cost Saving

When a vehicle's engine is running but the vehicle is not moving. This wastes fuel and damages the engine. We track this to help you lower fuel bills.

OBD-II Port

Hardware

The On-Board Diagnostics port. It is a small socket usually found under the steering wheel. Our Tiny Tracker plugs directly into this, meaning you don't need a mechanic to install it.

Telematics

General

A fancy word for the technology that sends data (speed, location, fuel) from your vehicle to your phone. It combines "Telecommunications" and "Informatics."
